A Little About Our CommonAngels

About Us

CommonAngels is an angel group focused on making investments in early-stage information technology startups.  Our group is made up of current and former entrepreneurs and senior executives of technology companies.  We have a passion for working with great entrepreneurs and building new companies.

In addition to our angel group, we have a micro-cap venture fund, managed by our two managing directors, that makes its own investments in seed-stage companies and adds to the capital from the group in early stage opportunities.

Since our founding in 1998, we have invested in over 40 companies and worked with countless startup teams.  We’ve been in your shoes and experienced many of the issues surrounding high growth technology startups

What We Do

We invest and work closely with promising, talented entrepreneurs looking to build great businesses. Our investments fall into two general categories, although the lines between the two are admittedly blurred.

Large seed/small Series A rounds. We catalyze these financing rounds for entrepreneurs, bringing our expertise and connections to the table.

Small seed investments. Our two managing directors, through the micro cap funds, make small seed investments to help entrepreneurs get their ideas off the ground.

How we help

We do not run companies. We are entrepreneur friendly. Our greatest value is the network of relationships and support we can provide our entrepreneurs.

What We Invest In

First and foremost, we invest in great entrepreneurs with great ideas. Second, we invest in areas we feel we can add value; for us that is in information technology business, which is actually a pretty wide canvas. Software, Internet, digital media, and mobile sectors are some of the areas we tend to focus on. We are also comfortable in B2B, consumer, and SMB markets.

We are not thematic investors; however, the technologies and market forces driving a cycle of innovation definitely influences our thinking.

We don’t invest in life sciences, medical devices, energy production, or businesses that require a lot of capital (think $5 - $10M) up-front before validating the concept.

We invest in New England, NYC, and occasionally eastern Canada.
